REASONS TO DONATE TO CAGH TO HELP VICTIMS OF THE EARTHQUAKE IN GRESSIER, HAITI

- Committee for the Advancement of Gressier-Haiti (CAGH) was founded by the Gressier Diaspora with the aim of improving the quality of life of the people of Gressier through education and health care programs. CAGH has been working with the people Gressier for more than 18 years to contribute to the development of Gressier.

- CAGH has participated in all Gressier development activities and educational services since 1991 by providing financial assistance and expertise in the areas of education and health care.

- Gressier is a small town 13 miles west of Port-au-Prince severely hit by the earthquake but unknown by the media. Help went to big cities such as Leogane and Jacmel. But they skipped Gressier, located between Port-au-Prince and Leogane. CAGH is the only organization that has people on the ground and knows the immediate needs of the people of Gressier in this catastrophic situation.

- People in Gressier died under the rubble. Nobody went there to help. CAGH was the only organization to send a member who arrived in Gressier on  January 28, 2010 with medicine to help the people. Our local members, our member from Boston, and the doctor of our organization, Dr. Creveceour put togheter a mobile clinic to provide care to the injured.

- CAGH is the only organization that has its own center in Gressier devoted to the service of the municipality. It is called Socio-Educational Development Center of Gressier. It was built in 2001 through the financial contributions of its Diaspora members and in kind contribution of its local members.

- CAGH has provided help to the people of Gressier without any financial assistance from any international organizations or NGOs based in Haiti (see past projects).  There are so many people who are without basic needs in Gressier. They need shelter, food, water, medicine and urgent care.

- CAGH has already spent 15 years negotiating and gathering funds to build a school in Gressier.  Now that it has been destroyed, it is even more important that we help the children return to school. School will busy their minds learning and hopefully, for however long, they will forget the fear and trauma of the earthquake.

- CAGH can provide services to orphans, children and adults to help them cope with post-traumatic stress through our volunteer therapists.

- Now facing this catastrophic event and confronted with the immense challenges that have followed, CAGH has to turn its attention toward outside help for the first time. After recent community development activities in 2009, our financial resources are limited. We cannot tackle these new problems without your help. We need to save Haiti, save the people of this town from disease and epidemics of all sorts. We need your help to bring life to the people of Gressier. God bless.
